Nang Tong Beach
Nang Tong (also spelt 'Nang Thong') is often considered the center of the Khao Lak area. Staying ay Nang Thong is ideal for those who like to be near plenty of bars, restaurants and other amenities. The town next to Nang Tong is referred to as 'Nang Tong town', 'Khaolak town' and 'Bang La On' The official name is Bang La On or La On Village. It is a small village that takes only a few minutes to walk up and down. Here you will find banks, shops, cheap restaurants, surf shops, dive schools and a collection of cool bars such as Happy Snapper, O'Connor's Irish Bar, Monkey Bar and Tarzan Bar. It is a lively night scene without being raucous or seedy.
Nang Tong beach is in a great location to enjoy La On Village. It also makes a great base from which to explore the other beaches of Khao Lak and the wider Phang Nga area. The beach at Nang Thong is white sand and wide, and it is great for swimming. Much of the beach is tree lined and offers plenty of shade.
There is a famous viewpoint near Nang Tong called Khao Lak View Point. It is an elevated view point from where you can gain an idea of the geography of the region. It is a short journey to Thap Lamu pier where boats for the Similan Islands depart. Nang Tong is also near Thap Lamu golf course.
There are plenty of places to stay in Nang Tong. At the cheaper end of the accommodation spectrum in Nang Tong is Khao Lak Youth Club (not an actual hostel) that has fan rooms starting at 600 Thai Baht a night. At the other end of the price scale is the Baan Khaolak Resort with luxury beachfront villas.
